What is Fire Mods and how does it work?

Extend What’s Possible in Rise 360 — Without The Need For Costly Add-ons

Fire Mods is a single JavaScript file that enhances your published Rise 360 courses with features not yet available natively in the platform. From scroll-triggered interactions and reflection-style inputs to custom styling options and visual tweaks, Fire Mods empowers developers to create richer learning experiences — all while keeping the original Rise workflow intact.

Once the firemods.js file is added to your published project, Fire Mods runs automatically when your course is loaded in the browser. Each enhancement can be switched on or off using simple configuration options at the top of the script, giving you full control over the behaviour of your content without the need to republish your course each time.

What Can Fire Mods Do? 🔥

👉 Trigger actions when content scrolls into view

Use scroll-based triggers to fire JavaScript when specific blocks enter the viewport. Great for animations, timed events, or revealing additional content based on learner behaviour.

👉 Add interactive reflection blocks

Turn standard Rise Note blocks into learner input fields that save responses locally. Perfect for self-reflection, journaling, or capturing learning takeaways — no external tools required.

👉 Run custom scripts with Rise buttons

Assign scripts to standard button blocks by using a unique ID in the link field. You can log events, launch animations, or trigger any action you like — even celebratory confetti! 🎉

👉 Enhance visual styling of Rise blocks, such as Text On Image

Apply frosted glass effects, drop shadows, custom fonts, and layout tweaks to elevate the look of Text on Image blocks and button elements, all while keeping the Rise content structure intact.

👉 Hide Course Navigation Menu On First Load

Automatically hide the sidebar on course load or apply stylish enhancements to the menu toggle button — improving both aesthetics and user focus.

The Fire Mods script is free to use, modify, and distribute within any Articulate Rise 360 project — with no restrictions on commercial use — as long as any changes are also shared under the same licence.

Will Fire Mods work with all Rise 360 courses?

Yes, Fire Mods is designed to work with any standard Rise 360 course once it has been exported and published. It does not modify your original content but adds enhancements at the point of delivery via the browser.

No. All enhancements are applied through a single JavaScript file that runs in the learner’s browser. Once the script is included in your published course files, learners will see the effects automatically.

Absolutely. Fire Mods is licensed under GPL-3.0, which allows for free use, modification, and distribution — including in commercial contexts — provided that any modifications you make are also shared under the same licence.

No. Fire Mods is an independent, open source project created by Discover eLearning Ltd. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by Articulate Global, LLC. Use of the script is entirely optional and done at your own discretion.

Fire Mods is designed to be lightweight and non-intrusive. It does not interfere with Rise’s built-in navigation or SCORM/xAPI tracking. However, as with any custom code, we recommend testing thoroughly before deployment to a live environment.

All configuration is handled at the top of the firemods.js file. Simply change values from false to true to activate features, and customise any provided settings such as colours, font styles, or IDs. Clear comments in the file explain each option.

Yes, we welcome ideas, feedback, and contributions! You can submit feature requests or pull requests via the project’s GitHub page. Fire Mods is a community-driven tool, and we’re always open to improvements.
