A Showcase Of All The Latest Generative AI Technologies Integrated Articulate Storyline 360
David Anderson, the Director of Training at Articulate, introduced the latest ‘AI in E-Learning’ challenge by noting, ‘I last hosted a similar challenge nine months ago, but things are evolving quickly in this area.’
That statement most certainly sums up my own impressions of generative AI technology since my first attempt at implementing generative AI API capabilities into an Articulate Storyline project for the first AI-themed challenge. My Generate Your Own Text Adventure project submitted to that challenge provided an opportunity to discover the capabilities of both the GPT and Dall-E APIs to dynamically generate both text and image on a Storyline slide at the same time.
During this project, I learned many valuable lessons about prompt engineering principles, especially how to fine-tune an OpenAI GPT prompt to provide data that could be manipulated within a Storyline project. Many of the things I learned found their way into my ‘Create eLearning Experiences Using ChatGPT and Articulate Storyline 360‘ online course, which has become one Discover eLearning’s most popular products to date.
Now nine months on there is an impressive list of improvements made across the board with generative AI, all of which are on show in this brand new showcase presentation for ELH Challenge #452. For the GPT API, we now have the ability to request a JSON-only format response which makes manipulating the returned data even easier within a Storyline project using JavaScript.
Dall-E offers a version 3 model which produces higher realism images capable of many things including producing text within a scene (and better hands!).
Perhaps the most valuable asset displayed in the project above is Text-To-Speech, for which ElevenLabs is one of the market leaders in this area. I have implemented the ‘Eleven Multilingual V2’ model into a new alpha test version our own eLearning Magic Toolkit plugin for WordPress, which is what makes the interface between my Storyline activity and all of the latest generative AI API solutions possible. I will continue to test the work I have done on the plugin over the coming weeks and hope to soon release a brand-new version that introduces text-to-speech capabilities for Articulate Storyline developers.
I hope you enjoy the challenge entry I have worked on this week, and look forward to seeing what other developers have created for this!
